If you couldn't tell by now, this is a painting I did for a 12 year old girl who had apparently lost a great portion of her things. Originally, I was contracted to make a simple digital drawing for her, but given the subject matter (a fairy princess ridding a frog... I went a touch outside the request... I forgot she was supposed to be riding the frog as opposed to crowning it ) I decided a more traditional approach would be more suiting. That and as this is for a girl who doesn't have much in the way of stuff anymore, then getting something tangible might be a bit better then some image that only exists in the digital realm.

As I mentioned, i took a few liberties with the original request. I didn't quite have her ridding a frog and, while I was making the piece, the fact that a pink dress was requested had slipped my mind. That's what i get for trying to do this while doing several other things as well i guess.

It's funny as originally i was sketching her out in a flowing dress like thing but felt it was too contrived and just didn't work. Those little fairies with the insect wings, sprites or what not, always seemed like a more wild bunch to me, not all that drawn to frilly dresses and what not... leaves and spider webs would be their leather and silk. So I tried to keep the natural aspects that i felt she should have while making her as much of a princess looking figure as I could. Hopefully the girl i painted this for won't mind that small change.
